You have been waiting so patiently for our Summer KAL! I wanted to be 100% sure that the yarn I wanted to use would be in stock for us when we needed it. The yarn I’m waiting on, a beautiful linen blend from Plymouth Yarn called Linaza, hasn’t been through customs yet, so it’s going to be another 2-3 weeks before we get our order. BUT, this should give everyone just enough time to decide if you want to participate, what color yarn you want and some time to practice the lace pattern if you want to give it a try.
Each of our knitalong sweaters have been an opportunity to learn something new. We’ve knit in pieces, in the round, back and forth, bottom-up, top-down… we’ve done plain stockinette, colorwork, cables, and lace. This summer we’re going to tackle short-row shaping and lace knitting from charts. This is a top-down sweater with raglan sleeve shaping and a short-row yoke for a great fit. As an intermediate project, this might require a bit of focus to settle into the pattern, but you’ll be rewarded with a gorgeous cardigan!

Timeline: Take the next two weeks to decide on your yarn! Let me know how much and what color you might need of Linaza by 7/22. The yarn will land by mid-July and we’ll start knitting the first week of August. Let’s meet in person at Thursday night Sit & Stitch, here at the shop, 5:00-7:00pm, starting Thursday, August 6.
What to do from here:
Stop by and read the pattern in person. Feel my swatches and the sample skein of Linaza. Check out the color card of beautiful colorways (much nicer in person than on the monitor). Get comfortable with the lace pattern by swatching with a thicker yarn. Let me know what yarn and/or needles you might need by 7/22. And then we’ll get started!

Gorgeous pattern. I love linen, although I am knitting wish some now…and it’s really starting to kill my hands. I wonder if there is a stretchy linen blend out there somewhere…?

Hmm… I’m not sure about a stretchy linen, but I’ve knit with this yarn

The nettle is a lot like linen and since it’s a chainette construction it has some stretch to it! We don’t sell it here, and it doesn’t work for this project, but if you can get your hands on a ball you could give it a try.

HI Jen,
I’d love to participate, but I’m not local. Will you be posting KAL updates so I could participate that way? Should I order the yarn from you and have it shipped to me here in Albany, NY?

Hi Jan! You can definitely participate from home – we have a handful of people who are long-distance. ALL of the instructional stuff is posted here on the blog. Our in-person meetings are a little more hands on, but I really just bop around the group and help out when people need me, so you’re not missing any essential KAL info there. If you know what you’d like for yarn I can jot you down, and when it comes in I can send you a link to check out online, super easy. I ship a lot of boxes to Albany 😉

Hi Jen,
Not being able to spend time with you as I knit this may not have me missing anything essential, but I will be missing some of the fun! I’ll have to reach out to Celeste. Is your sample done in Cream? It looks more white than what is shown on the online color card. I like it either way, but am hoping it is white. I’ll need 1680 yards, which I believe is 4 skeins. I’m excited!
Fondly,
Jan

Ah, yeah, it’s definitely a cream/off white. I didn’t bother adjusting the white balance on my little photo, there. They don’t have a pure white in this yarn at this time, although there are probably other yarns we could look at for a whiter white.
YES! I haven’t seen Celeste since Rhinebeck and I’m due for a trip out there, for sure. I’m glad you’re excited!

Thanks Jen. I want to use the Linaza, so I’ll stick with the cream. I love neutrals!

Jen,
Has the Linaza yarn arrived yet? I want to order 4 skeins of the cream to do the KAL.

Hi Jan – latest update is that it’ll be here the second week in August, just a bit later than we thought. I’ll call again tomorrow to see if there are any further updates!

Ok, I was just afraid I’d missed out. I’ll be ready to start a new project very soon and want it to be this KAL

Hi Jan, when will we start on the Kal
Sage Yarn said:
Hi Gloria! We are still waiting on the yarn that I was promoting to come in. It should be shipping by 8/18 and we’ll have it in a few days from then. If you have another yarn you’d want to use instead of the linaza you can get started sooner!
