We are hosting a really fun charity event coming up in just a few weeks! Chemo Caps 4 Kids will be here at the shop, teaching people to knit or crochet much-needed hats for children undergoing chemotherapy at Children’s Hospital in Boston. Here are the details!
Q: What kinds of hats should I make?
A: ALL kinds of hats are needed! Kids tastes very widely, so you can make anything from a simple solid color hat, all the way to funky stripes with pom poms. Heads come in a variety of sizes, all the way up to “adult” sizing, believe it or not. We grow into our heads pretty quickly!
Q: Is there a specific pattern that’s required?
A: Nope! All kinds are loved. Let me link you to some patterns for browsing
In order to narrow your results further you can select what type of yarn you’d like to use from the left hand column of keywords. I’ll probably be working mostly with DK or worsted weight yarn, myself.
Q: What kind of yarn should I use?
A: The organization has requested no wool, and since we’re coming into spring and summer, why not try out some cotton blends? Whatever you use, make sure the yarn is soft and washable. Don’t be afraid to combine your scraps in new and fun ways or add some yarn with texture!
Q: What should I bring with me to the event?
A: Bring your knitting or crocheting to work on and socialize with other yarn lovers and any finished hats you’d like to donate. Bring $10 for Kids Kickin Cancer – this organization helps to offset the financial costs of treatment, especially those extras that are sometimes forgotten (hospital parking garage fees, lunch at the cafeteria, etc.) Bring a friend who wants to learn to knit or crochet – we’ll get them started! A few more dollars will get you raffle tickets for the door prize!!
We’ll see you then!! Sunday, March 22nd, 1-4pm!
