I can’t express how incredible it has been to have internationally-known designers, such as Norah Gaughan, come and visit my little yarn shop in North Falmouth.  Wow!  Between the designs highlighted in her slide show, the Norah Gaughan Vol 15 trunk show that was delivered from Berroco, and everyone’s finished Norah Gaughan Knitalong projects, I have one LONG to-do list!

Norah arrived in Falmouth just before the rainy/icy weather threatened travel off-cape.  We enjoyed a wonderful slide show of her history as a designer and got a tiny glimpse into how her designs evolve from an idea or theme.  She was able to take some time to answer questions and sign books before we all retired for dinner and rest in anticipation of a full day of workshops on Saturday.

Me and Norah

Saturday’s workshops took place at Quicks Hole Tavern in Woods Hole.  On a cool and rainy December day we were thankful to have a cozy room to gather together.  Quicks Hole has an ocean view and incredible food! Our View

Lempster classThere was a lot of swatching going on! I felt a bit like I was on texture-overload by the end of Exploring the Cable Toolbox.  Swatches

Norah spoke about designing cables in different directions and in combination with all kinds of knits, purls, lace and twisted stitches.  While we swatched we had the opportunity to look through her large collection of substantial-sized swatches.

Between classes we may or may not have tried on some of Norah’s sweaters…. Here, Mindy is demonstrating how Reverse Me can be worn two ways – right side up and upside down!

After an amazing lunch provided by Quicks Hole Tavern we dove into Knitting Lempster.  This sweater is lovely, flattering and ingenious!  It is knit from the top-down and all of the tricky bits are at the top, which we began in class.

Since I’ve knit this one, myself, I will be your wingman through this whole project!  If you need any tips or tricks just let me know, and be sure to check out my previous blog posts about my crazy sweaterIMG_8674

In all, it was an incredible weekend!  Thank you so much to Norah for inspiring us, to Beth Colt and Quicks Hole Tavern for hosting us, and to you all for participating and supporting Sage!

We will still have the Norah Gaughan Vol 15 trunk show through this weekend and I have plenty of copies of the book available.  Stop by, try something on and pick out some yarn!
