In celebration of Norah Gaughan’s visit to Sage in December, we are hosting a Gaughan-Along! This is a slightly different twist on the knitalongs that we have been doing since we moved to our new location. Let me explain –
Norah Gaughan has a HUGE volume of work to choose from – how could I possibly pick ONE project that would appeal to all of the knitters who would like to participate? There are sweaters, accessories, baby blankets and more. For our Gaughan-Along I am asking you to pick your favorite Norah Gaughan design and knit it along with us. Our ultimate goal would be to wear it (or bring it) to our reception on Friday evening, December 5th, so that we can all check out each others’ projects and talk to Norah about them. Wouldn’t that be fantastic?!
I hope you’ll join us!
To get us started, I’ll answer some of the frequently asked questions we’ve encountered since we started chatting about this in the shop. This will give you a more solid idea of where to go from here. Then, I’ll be posting a few more blog posts with details on what I, personally, am doing. (Click here to read about Norah’s Workshops)
Q: What pattern should I choose?
A: This is the MOST asked question. I don’t have an easy, short answer for you. I have a really detailed, long answer for you, which I’ll be posting separately on the blog tomorrow. If you want to start daydreaming right now, the best thing to do is click through all of Norah’s designs via Ravelry and start adding things to your queue. You can later search just your queue for projects designed by Norah Gaughan, to browse your more narrow list and decide where to start.
Q: When do we start?
A: Start whenever you’re ready!! If you have a moment, shoot me an email and let me know what pattern you’ve chosen – firstname.lastname@example.org. We’ll start our in-person Sunday meetings on September 21st, 10:00am-12:00pm. Feel free to bring your coffee and/or breakfast for a cozy fall morning in our knitting corner! We should have plenty of time to finish before we meet Norah Friday, December 5th.
Q: What if I need help?
A: We will help you! Some of Norah’s best patterns might involve trying a new knitting skill or decoding a new-to-you pattern instruction. Don’t let that scare you off. We’ll help you every step of the way, whenever you need us. Stop by in person, meet with our Gaughan-Along group on Sundays 10:00am-12:00pm (feel free to bring coffee &/or breakfast), or send me an email at email@example.com.
Q: My chosen pattern calls for yarn you don’t carry. Can you order it?
A: For this knitalong we will order ANY CURRENT BERROCO yarn for you, in any colorway, in any amount, following a deposit of 50% of the price of the order. Berroco delivers very quickly from RI and I’m shooting to place these orders within 24 hours of when deposits are placed. Please check their website for what is current, since some of Norah’s patterns feature discontinued yarns. (We can always find a great substitute yarn for you, if this is the case.)
For yarns for other companies, we have to stick to companies with which we already have open accounts and their delivery times vary (Cascade, Plymouth, Trendsetter, Frog Tree, HiKoo, Anzula, Riverstone Fibers, Toil and Trouble, Opal, Schoppel Wolle, Brown Sheep). We also have some wonderful yarn substitutions in stock right now and we can help you pick out the perfect yarn for your project!
Let me know if you have any other questions! I’m SO EXCITED about this, I hope you’ll join in with me!
