Our first week of Christmas in July deals is inspired by two fun shawl patterns: Pendulum by Amy Miller (KNIT), and Lara’s Wrap by Julie Blagojevich (CROCHET).

KNIT

Pendulum has been on my list for a while now, and I have yarn set aside in both Toil and Trouble Sock and Anzula Squishy to make one (well, I guess, TWO).  Pendulum features stripes with a little bit of a different twist.  Some easy short-row shaping brings each horizontal stripe from a wide edge to a narrow edge, meeting it’s contrast color counterpoint at the other side.  Hm… that description is about as clear as mud!  Here’s Amy Miller’s project photo:Pendulum

I just love how the two sides are opposites – the gray stripe is wide at the right and narrow on the left, while the orange is the opposite!  It looks even prettier hanging around your shoulders.  Click through the projects on Ravelry for some color ideas and then check out our sale yarns at the bottom of this post!  This pattern is available for in-store Ravelry purchase, if you’d prefer to buy it here at the shop!

Pendulum = Fingering weight yarn in two contrasting colors, approx. 340 yds of MC and 230 yds of CC.

CROCHET

Celeste turned me on to Lara’s Wrap by Julie Blagojevich.  Once we found this pattern we went clicking through her designs and found all kinds of treasures!  Lara’s Wrap features two contrasting colors, where one gradually stripes into another.  I love this kind of color affect! (It’s a bit like a triangular Color Affection, and she even has a crochet version of that one!). For this wrap the stitch pattern is relatively simple – including single crochet, double crochet and chain stitches – and Julie has written *very* clear instructions along with a photo tutorial for getting started.  This pattern is also available for in-store Ravelry purchase, if you’d prefer to buy it here at the shop!

Lara's Wrap

Lara’s Wrap = Fingering weight yarn in two contrasting colors, approx. 820 yards of Color 1 and 545 yards of Color 2.

We’ve put some fun yarns on sale, for the next 7 days ONLY!  They are on sale both in the store AND on the website.  Don’t be afraid to mix and match colors from different lines-as long as they are fingering weight, they should work together.
