Sally MelvilleIf you haven’t heard, powerhouse designer Sally Melville is coming to Sage Yarn next month!  Sally’s repertoire boasts 7 books and more than 200 published patterns.  She teaches knitting internationally at large and small venues, and the best thing of all is that her work and her instruction are accessible to students of ALL LEVELS!

So why take a knitting workshop?  I’ll never forget the awesome experience of my first designer-led knitting workshop, an entire afternoon on selecting and tailoring sweater patterns taught by the inimitable Anne Hanson of Knitspot.  As a huge fan of her work I was super excited to meet her, but at the same time I was worried that I wouldn’t be able to keep up with the class — convinced that I would be in over my head, and that everyone would know it!  The reality was entirely the opposite (on my end, that is — Anne was every bit as amazing as I’d hoped!).  Anne was welcoming and encouraging, and her instruction was uniquely beneficial to everyone.  Newer knitters felt supported by her clear directions, while more experienced participants had the opportunity to take their knitting to the next level by delving deeper with her fit-ness instructions.  Best of all was the feeling of community I found in spending an afternoon doing what I love with so many great people who love it too.  Such an amazing surge of positivity, confidence, and creativity!

If you’ve never taken a knitting class or workshop, Sally’s would be an amazing start!  Her passion for teaching and the accessibility of her work provide a uniquely beneficial opportunity for any knitter.  We’re offering two workshops, both on Saturday, May 17. Essential Skills explores and explains the many techniques we should all have in our repertoire. We’ll talk about which are best suited to each situation and why, and we’ll practice them all with lots of hands-on experience.  Knit to Flatter & Fit addresses the few simple rules to follow for successful garment knitting: start with styles that flatter, knit with appropriate decisions for a personalized fit, then wear it with something that makes it look wonderful! This workshop has a lot of hands-on work that looks at these decisions and puts the power for successful results into your competent hands.

We encourage you to explore Sally’s work online and in person at Sage, where we’re featuring her designs with samples, patterns, and books.  Click to learn more about our upcoming event, and contact us with any questions!
