Between waves of customers Carol has been exploring Ravelry and discovering all of the wonderful patterns posted by independent designers.  She is finding some great stuff that I hadn’t seen yet!  Here is one that she thought would be wonderful for summer knitting with some of our drapey cotton and cotton blends-

Pattern: Summer Vest, by Julie Beatty, available as a free Ravelry Download
Yarn: Louisa Harding Albero, Cascade Ultra Pima, Berroco Pure Pima, or Queensland Collection Bebé Cotsoy

Carol has made TWO of these already and is talking about a third!  It has a racer-back detail that is achieved by starting out with a certain number of stitches, dividing and working them separately for a bit, then joining them again.  Since there are no sleeves, you can get a wonderful garment out of short yardage!  After she made her first one, Carol realized she needed a wider back, so she added some stitches to the width of the T.  She is thinking that she will make a third, adding a few extra stitches to the underarm for a bit more room.  She is having fun adjusting the pattern to fit, “winging it” a bit.

Carol has inspired me to make one!  Right, after I finish Vitamin D…. I’m eying the Mirasol Samp’a organic cotton for mine.
